The Kingston Compassion Club Society exists because people are suffering unnecessarily. The KCCS and Centres like it are necessary to fill the gap between our society’s widespread acceptance of the benefits of cannabis as medicine and our government’s reluctance to provide that which thousands of Canadians need: a reasonable source. Compassion Centres strive to provide an essential but not-yet-legal service in a manner that is as tolerable and respectable as possible.
Why compassion clubs?
Medical Cannabis Access is a Charter Right, supported by 93% of Canadians
1 Million Canadians use Medical Cannabis .
Two Parallel systems of Access exist: Health Canada’s program, and Medical Cannabis Dispensaries.
Health Canada takes an average of 2-6 months to process applications.
Health Canada licenses only 0.8% of all Medical Cannabis patients.
Dispensaries predate the Health Canada Medical Cannabis program.
Dispensaries serve five times more patients, and process applications within days.
Dispensaries, though protected by court decisions, are still subject to police raids.
All other drugs are distributed in Pharmacies, which closely mirror the Dispensary model.
Health Canada’s program is analogous to firearms licensing, but to no other medication or natural health product.
